Welcome 2022! Changes Coming to The Quiet Pond Starting This Year

Welcome to 2022, friends! For some of you, 2022 is still on the horizon, but for me in Aotearoa (New Zealand), it’s the first day of 2022. For all of the hardship, challenges, and losses that we had in 2021, I am so hopeful that 2022 will be a better year – even if my one goal is to just get through it and survive.

With the new year, The Quiet Pond will be doing a few things differently from now on, and I wanted to quickly go over what those changes will be so we are all on the same page.

Changes to the Book News

As all of you know, Skye does an incredible job at keeping us up to date with the latest book news. Since the start of the Book News, we have reported on (1) books releasing for the week, (2) new book announcements/publishing deals, (3) new cover reveals, and (4) any news about book-to-screen adaptations that we should all be excited about.

From 2022 onwards, the Book News will now be a biweekly (once every two weeks) feature and will no longer be reporting what books are releasing for the week. Skye and I made this decision based on a few factors: (1) the frequent and not widely announced changes to publishing dates due to supply issues, and (2) new releases are widely announced on Twitter/Instagram by the authors themselves. We will still report on new book announcements/publishing deals, new cover reveals, and adaptation news.

Wrap-Up Posts & Books We’re Excited About

At the end of (most) months, the three of us will get together and reflect on the last reading month. We’re not always the best at this, so in 2022, we want to make an effort.

Because we will no longer be talking about new book releases in the Book News, we will talk about upcoming releases in our wrap-up posts for the next month instead. This will motivate us to actually do the Wrap-Up Posts (hehe 😅) and also give us the opportunity to talk about the books we’re excited about. Win-win-win for the three of us.

Monthly Celebration Interviews

In the past, we have always gone all out for monthly celebrations, such as Black History Month and Pride Month. In the first few celebrations that we did, we had a post/interview/review almost every day of the month – anywhere between 20 – 25 posts per month.

Although we love and are proud of the content that we produce during these months, it is a lot of work and we’re always burned out by the end. At the end of the day, we have to balance between our goals of promoting books and authors (especially debut authors), our priorities outside of our blog (our paid jobs, social lives, and hobbies outside of reading/blogging), and our mental wellbeing.

From 2022 onwards, we will be reducing the number of posts done during these Monthly Celebrations. We will still celebrate with book recommendation posts and author interviews – just nowhere near 20 posts a month. Besides, we’ll be recognising the celebration/commemoration months with the upcoming Pondathon readathon. 👀

I want to thank you all for your understanding. We feel that these changes will enable us to continue writing about and celebrating all the books we love in a sustainable way that is fun and engaging for us.
