Pondathon II is a year-long gardening-themed readathon hosted by The Quiet Pond! Help us restore the forest by reading to earn plants and decorate your own garden. For more information about Pondathon, read our Readathon Information Post or check out our Pondathon II Portal.
You had a wonderful time with Gen, planting saplings together with him in a companionable silence. Though Gen isn’t a tortoise of many words, you know that he really appreciated your company.
You decide to go check on Cuddle next. As expected, the little otter is by her vegetable patch where she grows all her vegetables for the Pond friends’ dinners and soups. Cuddle looks hard at work – with a hoe in her hand, she ploughs the earth, readying it for the next season of vegetables.
“Friend! Hi!” she greets, wiping some sweat off her brow and readjusting her hat. In the corner, you can see Party seated by the wheelbarrow, a miniature hoe across her lap. “I thought it would be a good idea to expand this year’s vegetable patch. But it’s a lot of hard work, preparing the soil.” She sighs. “I know you are probably busy, but could you help me? We can even sing a song to help pass the time!”
You’ve received a quest!
It sounds like helping Cuddle will be hard work… but if we take care of the earth, it’ll take care of us in turn. And, at least we will be able to reap our rewards soon. Vegetable soup, friends?

I’ve been really enjoying the side quests, but I admit I’m a bit puzzled by this one… Why are non-binary authors included when it’s Women’s History Month? I’m pretty sure you’re not suggesting that non-binary people are some kind of women, but it kind of looks that way when you lump us together with women like this, for something that is a month focused on women…
Hi T. No, I am not suggesting that non-binary people are women. However, I also recognise that there are people who identify themselves as ‘non-binary women’ and wanted to ensure that their work would be included for the side quest. I apologise that this was not clear – I’ll make amends to this so it is more clear in the side quest.
Ah, I understand now! Thank you so much for explaining. =)

Thank you for bringing this up to me! 💛
I am so happy to see you always
authors but I’m sad to see that
authors with disabilities have been
left out of the reward system again. I am not sure, as well, why there is a limit on the women we celebrate this month.
Hi there, I’m confused as to how disabled authors have been left out and what you mean by there’s a “limit” on the women we celebrate”. As stated in the objectives, the authors simply need to be either Black or are women of colour. This means you can read book by disabled Black authors or disabled women of colour authors.
I was hoping to read Beauty is a Verb this month but it seems that it would not be counted in this challenge because it was written by a disabled white women who, to my knowledge, is not queer. Maybe I have read the rules incorrectly?
I am not familiar with the book you’ve mentioned but if that’s the case, no, it would not be counted.
However, you can still submit that book through the regular Pondathon form – it just wouldn’t qualify for the side quest.
If you’re confused about the rules, please read the tutorial that I wrote for the readathon.
