It’s the last weekend of Black History Month, and we hope that you have enjoyed our celebrations and commemorations of Black literature. Can you believe that February and Black History Month are almost over? Though we don’t have that many days left in February, I do, however, have a selection of incredible SFF books I’d like to recommend to you for Black History Month at the Pond.

But first, a quick recap: we had a spectacular week at Black History Month at the Pond this week. Skye and I interviewed Celeste Harte, who talked about her debut and indie publishing; Skye and Alexis Henderson worked together on a Pond-cation worldbuilding post that explored the village of Bethel; I interviewed Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé and we talked about her stunning debut and dark academia; and Chrystal D. Welcome back to our second book recommendations post for Black History Month at the Pond! We have had another wonderful and eventful week at the Pond. This week, I reviewed Yesterday is History, which is one of my favourite books so far this year, we had Nekesa Afia, who visited and talked about her adult historical mystery, Dead Dead Girls, and Ciannon Smart, who talked about her debut, Witches Steeped in Gold.

Last week, we closed the first week of Black History Month with 16 Black contemporary books. This week, we are going to celebrate and spotlight 20 queer Black books! We love these books – or, are very excited for them! – and we hope that you will read these books and enjoy them as much as we did.

I love post-apocalyptic and dystopian stories. I love post-apocalyptic stories because they explore human nature in extreme circumstances – where society’s rules no longer apply and survival is everything. On the other hand, I love dystopian stories because the imagined society where injustice and oppression reign supreme draw attention to a truth in our very own societies.
